Kindness Rank
How Clear decides which page to show first, explained like you are 13.
What kindness means here
Rebuild at least a little portion of the web according to kindness. Build it from kindness on.
Kindness is: feeding people. Welcoming people in (Thanksgiving, Christmas, having people over). Smiles. Compliments. Props: sending nice text messages. Little gifts and gift giving. Hugs. Helping people. Being there for people. Writing people nice letters.
Those are the human signals this ranking is built to reward. Pages that help people do these things rank higher here, because that is what kindness looks like when it is real.
Imagine every page is a kid at school
When one page links to another page, it is like pointing at someone and saying: "That one is good. Go look."
Now here is the clever part. A point from a random kid counts a little. A point from the most trusted kid in school counts a LOT.
And how does someone become trusted? Trusted kids point at them. It goes around in a circle, over and over, until the scores settle down and stop changing.
The founders of Google invented this trick and called it PageRank. That name belongs to them, so ours is called Kindness Rank. Same math. Friendlier network.
Now give every kid stickers
Tags are stickers. Every page wears stickers that say what it is about: pizza, guitar, kindness.
Here is the trick with stickers. A page has one pile of trust to hand out, and it splits the pile between its stickers:
4 stickers? Each sticker gets a big piece of the trust.
40 stickers? Each sticker gets crumbs.
So pages learn to pick a few stickers that really fit. And the stickers get scores too: a sticker worn by lots of trusted pages becomes a trusted sticker. That is how the whole tag system stays clean without anyone policing it. The math does the policing.
A tiny example
Three pages. The Pizza Page points at the Kindness Page. The Guitar Page points at the Kindness Page too. The Kindness Page points back at the Pizza Page. Everyone starts with 10 points. Run the circle a few times:
Two pages pointed at it, so it wins.
One point, but from the strongest page, so it still does well.
Nobody pointed at it yet. It needs good links, or better stickers.
Made up numbers, just to show the idea. The real system does this with every page and every tag on the network, every night.
The third ingredient: somebody vouches
On the big web, anyone can publish anything, so scores can be cheated. Clear is different. A page only gets in when a member vouches for it, like a friend walking you into a club and saying "she is with me." If the page turns out to be junk, the voucher loses trust too. So Kindness Rank is really three scores in one: links (who points at you), tags (what your stickers are worth), and vouching (who stood up for you).
Every tag in the E2 universe: 109 tags
These are the stickers, all 109 of them, pulled from the E2 tag library. Every one is clickable. In the finished version, each tag below will carry its own Kindness Rank score, and Clear search will use those scores, plus the page scores, to decide the order you see.

Why bother?
Because the web got ranked by whoever shouted loudest or paid most. Clear ranks by something slower and better: who the trusted pages point at, what the honest stickers say, and who was willing to vouch. That is the whole idea. Small network, clear pages, kindness ranked.
